Roald Dahl's The Landlady
The Landlady is a dark tale of an innocent young man who means a terrible end in the hands of the landlady. Throughout the book you are given subtle hints that she is going to kill him and preserve his body with taxidermy. The design of my book is the living embodiment of this story, throughout the book are abstract lines that weave through the narrative, as you gradually become aware of the landlady’s intentions the lines become ever clearer until you’re meant with the grim realisation that the book itself is designed to be preserved. You must then re-read the story as you are encouraged to re-examine what you have read as you carefully rip the pages from the spine, cut along the lines and piece together the body within the pages.
